Issues related directly to the World Diamond Council
Highlighting the proven ability of natural diamond resources to serve as a driver for the development of sustainable economies and societies, World Diamond Council President Edward Asscher warned that this potential is threatened if the Kimberley Process doesn’t evolve to address the challenges of today. He was speaking during the opening day of the KP Intersessional, which is taking place in the town of Kasane in Botswana.
The World Diamond Council (WDC) mourns the untimely loss of Sanjay Shah, a serving member of its Board of Directors, who passed away in New York on April 29, 2022.

The Young Diamantaires of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) hosted WDC President Edward Asscher on January 20, 2022, during a webinar on January 20, 2022, entitled “A lifetime of commitment to the diamond industry.”
On July 15, 2021, WDC President Edward Asscher was presented with the Initiatives in Art and Culture Award for Extraordinary Contributions to the Diamond and Jewelry Industries, during the final session of IAC’s 11th Annual Gold and Diamond Conference.

The World Diamond Council (WDC) and Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) have entered into a cross-membership partnership and signed mutual codes of conduct. The two leading diamond and jewelry industry organizations are dedicated to the adoption of responsible business practices across the supply chain.
The goals of the World Diamond Council are to preserve and protect the integrity of the Kimberley Process and the entire diamond value chain, WDC President Edward Asscher stressed in a video message during the opening of the the Guangzhou International Jewellery & Diamond Conference on October 29, 2020.
Members of the World Diamond Council assembled for the organization’s Annual General Meeting on October 19, 2020, joined by invited guests, among them representatives of the governments involved in the Kimberley Process and members of civil society. In contrast to previous WDC AGMs, this gathering was not held in person but rather by videoconference, a consequence of the many travel restrictions in place worldwide because of the COVID-19 health crisis.
