With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Rory More O’Ferrall this morning after a lengthy heart operation. He leaves behind his partner, Andrew McCullough. Rory was truly a legend in our industry, known for his kindness, courage, wisdom and generosity.

Rory was a visionary leader at De Beers for 36 years, advocating for ethical practices and sustainable development. He played a crucial role in creating the World Diamond Council (WDC) and shaping the Kimberley Process to ensure ethical diamond sourcing.

After leaving De Beers Group, Rory continued his mission with the The Diamond Development Initiative (DDI), supporting small-scale diamond miners. He also remained an Honorary Life Member of the World Diamond Council. His dedication to positive change touched hearts globally.

Let’s honor Rory’s memory by carrying on his important work and striving for a diamond industry built on integrity and compassion.
